Having fun with Wowhead’s model viewer (and new gun models!)

Wowhead has updated their Warlords site to support the new character models in the 3D model viewer. So far the orcs, dwarves, and tauren male are supported. I’ve been having fun checking out some transmogs on the new dwarf model as I plan to race change my main hunter to that in 6.0.

The animations all seem very close to the originals with some slight tweaks. The biggest change, of course, is the facial animation quality. You can preview all of the various emotes and attacks for each character. The facial animations are in a completely different league compared to what we have now.

You can also preview some of the new armor and weapons, like this very strange looking gun below.

The Face Shredder

The gun in the header image is one of the new rifles, Shrediron’s Face Shredder. The assumption is that it’s an engineer-crafted weapon, but we can’t be 100% sure until we see the schematic. I noticed this particular gun came in 3 item level versions — 650, 675, and 700. If you look at each individual model, you’ll notice they progressively get fancier. If I had to guess, I would say that this gun is upgradeable. No, I’m not talking valor upgrades (those are being removed), I’m talking about crafting upgrades.

I could be wrong in these assumptions, but I hope I’m not! If it’s true, this will hopefully breathe a little more life into the crafted weapons. I expect to replace them in a raid, but it would be cool if an engineer could craft themselves a gun that is slightly better than a heroic dungeon weapon.

In order to preview items with the new models, you need to be on the wod.wowhead.com version of the site. Have fun!

  1. Never been one for guns, but I have to say Sherdion’s Face Shredder looks too good to ignore. I might even take a break from my Golden Bow of Quel’Thalas when I make it, especially if it comes with craftable upgrades that are cosmetic as well as genuinely useful.
