Savager Ravagers

Sorry. I couldn’t resist.

Blizzard teased this new mount on twitter yesterday. Remove that little saddle, and you have yourself the new Warlords of Draenor Ravager pets.

Darkbrew was also impressed by the savagery on display here.

So much savage.

Bear Trap will be a Survival DPS cooldown

A couple weeks ago, Celestalon tweeted that survival hunters were getting a new ability called Bear Trap. I speculated it might be a DPS cooldown since survival was sorely lacking in that department, and it looks like it will be. Beast mastery has Bestial Wrath, marksmanship has Rapid Fire, and now survival will have Bear Trap.

Pet(s) of the Week: Wolves that bark, growl, and howl

That there is my Oil-stained Wolf named Void. They are no longer tameable with their oily coat intact — I thought I would get that out of the way first (sorry about that 😛 ). Aside from looking really cool, this wolf has a neat little feature of barking/growling when he is clicked.

It turns out there are a handful of wolves available in the game which will do this — some rare, some easy to find. Why is this such a big deal? Because when you click on them, you gain a stacking 1% damage buff from each bark (up to 20 stacks). Not many people know about this hidden buff as it doesn’t appear in your list of auras and…

Alright, I’m kidding. There’s really no point to this. I just like pets that make sounds when I click on them, OK?

Ricket’s 5.4 marksmanship guide

Tired of beast mastery and survival? Ricket has posted a great video guide to marksmanship DPS in 5.4 on her YouTube channel. She discusses stat priorities, arcane vs. aimed shot focus dumps, the opener, and more. She’s currently ranked #1 for marksmanship on Malkorok 25H on worldoflogs, so it’s a safe bet you can take these tips to the bank.

With the possibility of marksmanship being a stronger spec in Warlords, you may want to get a head start and try it out now if you haven’t yet. Just remember that Aimed Shot will be the exclusive focus dump in the future, so don’t get too attached to Arcane Shot while playing MM! You can see a summary of marksmanship changes in Warlords revealed thus far here on Eyes of the Beast.

More Lone Wolf details, Kill Shot being improved

One of the questions I always had about Lone Wolf is whether or not you’d actually be sacrificing anything by taking it. The damage from your pet is replaced, but you don’t have to worry about your pet derping, so that damage is probably even greater than the damage lost from the pet.

Lone Wolf hunters can also still bring one of the 6 major raid buffs without a pet, so that aspect of pets is covered. Next on the list was our abilities and talents that play off the pet. We weren’t sure if Blizzard was going to retool those for petless hunters or not. Well, it looks like some of those simply aren’t going to work with Lone Wolf.

Hunter Transmog: Green Machine

This set was built primarily around the heroic version of these shoulders, which drop in Dragon Soul. They have a really neat visual effect of spectral wolves flying out of them periodically (see below screenshot). For the rest of it, I just used the best greenish colored armor I had available.

Most of the main armor pieces are normal mode tier 15. Some of them have lookalikes available from other sources. The goggles do require engineering, but if you’re a hunter and not an engineer… what the heck are you doing? Switch professions stat!

Pet of the Week: Sparkwing

The spiked wind serpents only had a couple colors available prior to Mists of Pandaria even though there were other unused colors in the game files for years. Blizzard remedied this by scattering a bunch of new rares in 5.1 and 5.2 to get some of those colors in the wild.

Sparkwing, pictured above, is the only wind serpent to use the blue/white skin. It spawns at about 59,86 inside a cave in Stonetalon Mountains. As with most old world rares added in Mists, its respawn time seems to average around 3-4 hours. Wind Serpents have Lightning Breath (magic vulnerability) as their special ability, and it’s going to stay the same in Warlords.

You may also remember this blue guy from the T15 2-piece bonus that summoned a Thunderhawk (which always seemed to shoot the wrong target, am I right?).

Just used up my luck for the next year

About a year ago, I got the Reins of the Onyxian Drake and Reins of the Azure Drake on the same day and I joked then that my luck would be bad for the next year. I was right. But then this happened:

ashesfiery

I’ll say once again that my luck is used up for the year. I look forward to my next rare mount drop in 2015!

For those wondering, it was 88 Kael’thas kills and approximately 60 Attumen kills.

Rapid Fire is back, Flaming Shots is gone, and Bear Trap is coming!

Leave it to Blizzard to release some new info mere minutes after I make a post about abilities I’m going to miss (one of them being Rapid Fire).

  • Rapid Fire returning as marksmanship only is great. It makes the most sense for a spec that will be hardcasting most of their shots. Lots of hunters were suggesting this and it seems like Blizzard listened. It didn’t feel good to have a spec with zero active cooldown abilities.
  • Bear Trap was first seen in the Wrath of the Lich King beta but it never made it to live servers. It rooted the target and caused a bleed. Not sure if it will be the same here or something completely new. Here is an old video from the beta showing it.  One of its secondary effects better be the ability to trap feral druids! Seriously though, let’s hope it’s a survival-only cooldown. With the CC reductions, I have trouble believing they plan on adding another CC spell, even if it is only for one spec. It would also be pretty redundant with Entrapment.
  • Flaming Shots was boring for a level 100 talent, and only seemed suited to one spec, so this is good news.

Can’t wait to hear about Bear Trap and the Flaming Shots replacement. HUNTER NEWS! So exciting. I’ll be updating all the relevant WoD posts with this info.

3 Hunter abilities I’ll miss (and 3 I won’t miss) in Warlords

Hunters are losing a dozen or so abilities in Warlords of Draenor. Depending on what hunter you ask, you’ll get a different answer to this question. I understand the reasoning behind most of these decisions, but there’s just some abilities I’m really going to miss.

Abilities I’ll miss
1. Distracting Shot

I’ll admit this is not a button I used on a regular basis, but the number of awesome plays I’ve pulled off thanks to Distracting Shot will make me miss its utility. It could be as simple as saving a healer in a dungeon, or it could be something like taunting a Warshaman who got too close to General Nazgrim during the final burn, or preventing a Minion of Y’Shaarj from exploding inside a pack of other minions.

The Glyph of Distracting Shot let you do pretty interesting things as well, like positioning your pet far away so you could ping-pong a difficult enemy back and forth, avoiding a lot of damage.

Distracting Shot will be missed, but I’ll get over it.
