Pet of the Week: Talador Ridge Prowlers

This week’s pet of the week is a bit late because my big video preview on the new pet families was posted in its place. Now we’ll get back to looking at individual hunter pets found in Draenor. Even though you can’t tame these yet, you’ll be able to look back on previous pets of the week and have a bunch of taming ideas when Warlords is released. If you’re like me, you’ll already be looking in your stable and figuring out which pets you’re willing to abandon to make room.

If you’re a fan of cat pets, I think you’ll like these new colors being added in Warlords. I’m partial to the white one myself. They can be found right smack dab in the middle of Talador. The white ones can also be found elsewhere in the zone. Some of them will be stealthed, others will be sleeping. There’s plenty of them to tame though.

It looks like Draenor isn’t getting any new cat models, which isn’t surprising considering they were just updated in Mists.

New hunter pet families in Warlords of Draenor

Warlords of Draenor is introducing five new hunter pet families, bringing the grand total to 48 different families. It’s kind of disturbing to think that we barely have enough stable slots to house one pet from each family. Many families will remain unrepresented in my stables unfortunately (WTB more stable slots), but these five new families will not be among the excluded.

One of the new families (Clefthooves) is a rename of an existing one to incorporate some new beasts, but the other four are brand new.

  • Hydras
  • Clefthooves (Exotic) — formerly known as Rhino
  • Riverbeasts
  • Stags
  • Rylaks (Exotic)

First things first, you can check out the below video I made previewing the new families.  I picked a handful of pets from each family to show off. It is by no means an exhaustive list, if it was I would have never finished the video.  I recommend fullscreen 1080p for this one. Lots of cool scenery! Enjoy.

Pet of the Week: Savage Warwolf

Just when I thought my stable was safe…

It looks like we finally have a successor to the Shattered Hand Warhound from Outland. The Savage Warwolf is a level 98 wolf pet found in Nagrand (Draenor). It runs around Telaar with the orcs that use these beasts for their mounts. I’ve never seen more than one or two up at a time, but they do respawn fairly quickly. So don’t be surprised if you go there and don’t see any immediately. The ones being ridden don’t count as beasts, you need the riderless ones.

Check out the video below to see this cool wolf in motion.

WoD Beta 18663: Clefthooves, Stags, and more new pets

The highlight of this beta patch was a serious amount of new tameable hunter pets. We have two new pet families and a bunch of new pet skins to discover.

Let’s get the non-pet stuff out of the way first because there’s not much of it in this build:

  • Glyph of Misdirection is back in the build. This has been absent from alpha/beta for a very long time, and some of us were beginning to get worried. It’s all good though.
  • Misdirection is now learned at level 42 (old: level 76)
  • Exotic Munitions: Poisoned Ammo has been buffed slightly (40% AP to 48% AP)
  • Exotic Munitions: Frozen Ammo has had its damage nerfed considerably (40% weapon damage down to 15%). There should no longer be a question of what munition does the most damage on single target.
  • Hunter WoD PvP Marksmanship 4P Bonus: Aimed Shot reduces the cooldown of Rapid Fire by 5 sec.
  • All enchants have been buffed. For example, cloak enchants now grant 250 seconday stats (up from 200).
  • Scopes have been buffed (from 750 to 938 stats)

Gara, the loyal Spirit Wolf: Hints at a new tame?

Hunter @Miacoda discovered this sad and lonely spirit wolf, Gara, apparently keeping vigil at its master’s grave in Shadowmoon Valley for Elune knows how long. The interesting thing about Gara is that you can only interact with her if you are in beast mastery spec. Nothing happens yet, but this is a pretty big hint at something.

Update on Gara: For the latest info on Gara, see this new post.

Pet of the Week: Draenor Raptors

I’m looking forward to using raptor pets more often in Warlords of Draenor. Not just because of these cool new models/skins, but because raptors now bring a crit buff, Strength of the Pack, which makes them useful in more situations.

The best way to describe these new raptors is just that they’re classic WoW raptors re-done in higher definition. Take a look at the video below to see them in action.

Hunter Pet Update: Clefthooves, Stags, Teroclaws, Raptors, and Gyreworms

My poor stable.

We have some new pet families coming to Warlords of Draenor in addition to the already announced Hydra, Riverbeast, and Rylak.

First up is this tweet in the traditional Muffinus style where he likes to hashtag everything to get hunters excited. He revealed tameable hydras in much the same way, only this time it’s Clefthooves. Yep, those big suckers you’ve hunted for our good friend Hemet Nesingwary in the past. You should be able to tame the old Outland ones, or one of the new ones as shown above (I snuck into the new Nagrand a little early with some Eagle Eye hopping  😉 ). Not sure if they’ll be a new family or part of the Rhino family as an Exotic beast. Time will tell. Makes me wonder if Mushan beasts could be added to that family as well.

Update on Clefthooves. They will be part of the Rhino family.

WoD Beta 18594: Aspect of the Fox, Lone Wolf changes, new pet abilities

A new beta build just went out and we have more hunter changes. Let’s start out with the biggest one:

Aspect of the Fox: Party and raid members within 40 yards take on the aspects of a fox, allowing them to move while casting all spells and abilities for 6 sec. Only one Aspect can be active at a time.

We spoke about this a couple of days ago, so I encourage you to check out that post and its comments for more info and opinions on this new raid utility. Opinion is pretty mixed, to say the least.

Pet of the Week: Hook Wasps

Hook wasps were originally slated to be in their own Exotic Pet family, but Blizzard later decided to just merge them with regular wasps. I can only hope the special ability they were going to have, Flutter, will make it into the rylak repertoire or some other pet family in the future.

I’ve always had a soft spot for wasp pets, I don’t know why. They’re not particularly pleasant to look at, but there’s something cool about having a giant wasp as a pet. The video below shows the new hook wasp model in action.

Pet of the Week: Flying Rylaks

It’s going to be hard to top last week’s pet, but today we’re taking a lot at another new pet from Warlords of Draenor. The Twinbreath Skystalker is part of the new rylak family, or at least it’s supposed to be. For now it’s just classified as a chimaera until they add the rylak family to the game. Rylaks will be exotic pets.

This isn’t a rare pet, you can go out into the middle of Frostfire Ridge and find several of them flying around, and others being captured by Thunderlord orcs. Unlike other flying pets, rylaks spend all of their time on the ground once tamed. Well, almost all of it…
