Get Play Dead, Fetch, Aspect of the Chameleon, and a toy in Sholazar Basin

Hunters can regain some of the functionality of old glyphs by heading out to Sholazar Basin and visiting Mardan Thunderhoof at the Nesingwary Base Camp. Originally I thought these items were only available in the class hall, but it turns out I was wrong!

Here is what this vendor sells. All four items cost 50 gold each.

  • Pet Training Manual: Fetch — Teaches you the Fetch ability. Use this to have your pet loot nearby corpses for you.
  • Pet Training Manual: Play Dead — Teaches you both the Play Dead and Wake Up abilities. This is actually better than the old glyph because you can have your pet feign death without you. If you want to replicate the functionality of the old glyph, you can macro both Play Dead and Feign Death together.
  • The Art of Concealment — Teaches you the Aspect of the Chameleon ability, which makes you untrackable for 1 minute. This is similar to the old Aspect of the Beast.
  • Hunter’s Call — A toy that summons a small beast to follow you around for 15 seconds on a 30 second cooldown.

Update 7/23: Additionally, you can pick up the Fireworks Instruction Manual from Bryan Landers in Dalaran (both old and new Dalarans) to teach you Fireworks.

As for glyphs, we are lacking them in the pre-patch (only Lesser Proportion is available) so you’ll have to wait until Legion. I previously covered the new glyphs here.

  1. Thank you so much for this! I’m being stubborn and not pre-ordering Legion, but I was annoyed that i would have to wait until I decide to do so in order to get Fetch and Play Dead back. Not so! 🙂

  2. Nice find 🙂 Luckily I’m an engineer so I can get still get around the world without relying on boats 😉

  3. How do we apply the current Glyph of Lesser proportion? Toward what spell? And how do we remove glyphs?

    1. That particular glyph is applied on a per-pet basis, so you can’t make all your pets shrink at once. When you right click it, it should open your spell book. Then you click on what pet to apply it to. I believing Vanishing Powder is what’s used to remove the glyphs now.

  4. Thanks for this Bendak!

Because I’m not sure where else to put it, this if for all the hunters who read this blog:

    TRY SURVIVAL!

It’s incredibly fun and dishing out the damage. More to the point, it really does manage to capture the fantasy of the skirmishing, close range SV hunter I imagined when i first chose the spec back in Classic.

  5. Hmm, I’m at that vendor (Mardan Thunderhoof) now and the only thing I can see is the Hunter’s Call toy. I saw a horde hunter talk to him and she learned several items. Are they timed/spawn type items, perhaps? Thanks for any help you can give.

  6. I’m level 100. Very odd. I’m going to relog and see if that does anything. Can’t hurt to try lol 😉 Thanks for the assistance, much appreciated. I’ll keep bugging Mardan 🙂

  7. fyi… relogged ~ items are now showing up for me. Hope this helps anyone else that has the same problem. Happy hunting, peeps!

  8. Love to see them come out with glyph that turns the hunter into a spirit wolf, cat or fox.Be nice have an illusion like that for hunters.

  9. PROTIP: The new play dead spell works on Razorgore in Blackwing Lair. You can still move him and crush the eggs while he is playing dead. This makes the fight beyond trivial!

  10. Thanks for this info! What I’m asking myself though, is why was this not mentioned in patch notes or better yet given to all hunters for free automatically?!?
