Hunter Transmog: Alliance Rifleman

I have a soft spot for this armor set. Back in vanilla, I spent a great deal of my time PvPing and I seriously lusted over this set. It was so prestigious that I remember only 1 or 2 hunters on my realm even had the full set since you needed to be rank 14 to get it all. The highest I ever got was rank 10 (Lieutenant Commander), and I played a lot of PvP. To give you an idea how much, I had about 75,000 honorable kills before Burning Crusade even came out. So you can imagine how much one would have to play to get rank 13 or 14 back then. I’m skeptical there were any rank 14s who didn’t account share at least a little bit.

Anyway, when patch 2.0 came along before Burning Crusade they let everyone buy this stuff with honor points. That short period between 2.0 and Burning Crusade was a fun time to be a hunter. Arcane Shot had just gotten buffed to scale with AP (before this it was a static 183 damage… I’m not even joking) and it was obscenely powerful. An instant cast ability which crit for 1500 or so back then was insane. Throw 2500 damage Aimed Shots on top of that and clothies didn’t stand a chance. Health pools averaged around 4k at that time.

When transmog was introduced in Cataclysm, Blizzard restricted transmog on these items to those who had achieved rank 9 (Knight-Captain) or higher as sort of a badge of honor type deal. It was great to be able to don this shiny armor once again. When transmog first came out I got a ridiculous number of tells asking me where to get it.

More recently, they’ve made it so anyone who gets a 1800 RBG rating achievement can purchase and transmog them. I think it’s cool when some items are retired, so I think Blizzard should have kept the special snowflake aspect of the armor. But that’s just me (and I’m obviously biased). Not like I actually earned it myself anyway. Only rank 10? Scrub.

Oh, wait… this was supposed to be a transmog post.

All these items require the 1800 RBG achievement if you didn’t earn rank 9+ in vanilla PvP (except the belt).

Helm: Replica Field Marshal’s Chain Helm (I’m using Malefactor’s Eyepatch as usual since the helm cuts into my beard!)
Shoulders: Replica Field Marshal’s Chain Spaulders
Chest: Replica Field Marshal’s Chain Breastplate
Tabard: Arathor Battle Tabard
Shirt: n/a
Gloves: Replica Marshal’s Chain Grips
Belt: Giantstalker’s Belt
Legs: Replica Marshal’s Chain Leggings
Boots: Replica Marshal’s Chain Boots
Weapon: Replica Grand Marshal’s Hand Cannon

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

The horde equivalent to this is the Warlord’s Pursuit set.

Got a cool hunter transmog to show off?

Submit it, along with a complete item list and a link to a high resolution screenshot or two (1200+ pixels wide) and I may feature it on the site!

  1. This is my current transmog set, although I’m using Truesight Ice Blinders, since they match the color scheme and show off some engineering pride, along with the Knight’s Tabard, which also reflects my classic PvP rank (Knight Captain) and matches the Alliance theme of the gear.

I REALLY wish there was a transmog-viable Mountaineer set I could wear; I’ve built a prize-winning Halloween costume of it (since I fell in love with the race/class through the Dwarven RIfleman units in War3), but it mixes cloth, leather and mail … bleah.

  2. I didn’t know you could get the grand marshall set with just rank 9+ but really tempted to get it now that I see it again.I used to have the Lt. Commander version (I made it to rank 10 as well). I think I would prefer a different gun transmog though.

    1. Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle goes with everything.

Or if you want a classic look, Core Marksman Rifle (engy crafted, pattern drops in MC) looks pretty awesome as well
