Hunter Transmog: Challenge Mode Weapons

Consider this to be your 6-month warning. Like the Challenge Mode armor from Mists of Pandaria, the Challenge Mode weapons from Warlords of Draenor will probably be going away forever in the 7.0 patch.  I remember the mad rush for people to complete the MoP CMs in the final days leading up to 6.0. I knew people with the gold to spend on carries who couldn’t get it done in time because of the sheer demand those carry groups were under in the final days. So if you want these? Don’t procrastinate!

What’s more, it looks like Challenge Mode transmogs will be going account wide for the same class. So if you unlock this stuff on a Hunter, theoretically you should be able to use it on any Hunter on your account. For someone like me who only plays Hunters this is pretty cool news. There’s no word yet if the weapons you unlock will be usable on other classes though. For example, Hunters can buy almost all of the weapons (except for a few), but I’m not sure that means you could use the 2H sword on a Warrior alt (don’t count on it).

Legion Alpha: Hunter tier 19 armor preview

Both Wowhead and MMO-Champion posted previews of the Hunter tier 19 (and PvP) armor today. This is definitely Sylvanas-inspired armor and will probably suit Marksmanship the best with their Dark Ranger talent and the Thas’dorah bow. There are many colors for the various difficulties and PvP tiers, with the Mythic and Elite PvP sets being a little bit flashier as usual.

For the other colors, I’m not sure which goes with what difficulty yet. We won’t know for sure until the tier sets are in the database. When that happens we should also be able to preview the sets on other races with the model viewer on Wowhead.

Fel Hunter transmogs (or more excuses to use the goggles)

Killing demons and fel orcs in Tanaan Jungle needs a transmog to fit the part. Today we’ll take a look at a couple fel-themed transmogs for Hunters.

The first one is rather simple, but I’ve been using it for most of 6.2. It’s the one featured above and it’s simply the season 1 Gladiator armor set, along with the fel goggles and the gun from Heroic Lei Shi.

Helm: Fel-Proof Goggles
Shoulders: Gladiator’s Chain Spaulders
Cloak: n/a
Chest: Gladiator’s Chain Armor
Hands: Gladiator’s Chain Gauntlets
Belt: Marshal’s Chain Girdle
Legs: Gladiator’s Chain Leggings
Feet: Marshal’s Chain Sabatons
Weapon: Taoren, the Soul Burner (Heroic version)

Everything sans the goggles and gun is purchased with honor points in Area 52, Netherstorm. If you don’t feel like farming up the honor for all these pieces, there is also Demonstalker Armor. Same model but the base armor is lighter in color. For that you’ll need to run some TBC raids.

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

Hunter Transmog: Snowstalker

This transmog was submitted by Argentlam of Khadgar-EU. White hunter transmogs aren’t something you see every day, so I thought it was worth posting!

Helm: N/A
Shoulders: Witch Doctor’s Spaulders or Mischievous Spaulders (Alliance only)
Cloak: Refractory Heartcloak
Chest: Wasteland Chain Armor
Shirt: Common White Shirt (or any white shirt)
Hands: Giantstalker’s Gloves
Belt: Sharpeye Belt
Legs: Wasteland Chain Leggings
Feet: Streamslither Boots
Weapon: Needle Threader or the Fox Hunter’s Rifle as a tribute to Simo Hayha, a Finnish sniper who has 506 kills on record, in the snow, using a rifle without a scope.

It’s worth noting that all of the Warlords items have many other lookalikes available (you can see them on Wowhead). The pet featured in the screenshots is Stompy.

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

Hunter Transmog: Spec Ops

I liked this transmog as soon as I laid eyes on it. This one was submitted by Shadowwolf of Zul’jin. Here’s what he had to say:

Originally designed on a Male Worgen using the Replica Coif and Dark Iron Gun, was going for a minimalist black/dark look. Modified them in WoD to include the Cybergenetic Mechshades for the night-vision goggle look.

Head: Cybergenetic Mechshades
Shoulder: Upstanding Spaulders
Chest: Avenger’s Armor
Belt: Blackforge Girdle
Legs: Leggings of the Insatiable
Boots: Veteran’s Chain Sabatons
Gloves: Gloves of Taut Grip
Weapon: Dagryn’s Discarded Longbow (LFR)

If you’re not an engineer, Shadowwolf suggests this or this as a helm replacement. For a gun instead of a bow, try this, this, or this.

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

Hunter Transmog: Alliance Rifleman 2.0

My first “Alliance Rifleman” transmog was based on the vanilla hunter PvP gear. The problem with that one is unless you’re high ranked (or earned rank 9+ in vanilla), it’s unavailable to you.  This new one, however, is available to anyone who builds a Dwarven Bunker in their garrison. Even though it looks like plate, it can be worn by any armor class. It just so happens that it looks pretty badass on a dwarf. Sorry, Hordies, this one is Alliance only (except the gun and goggles).

Head: Steamworker’s Goggles
Shoulder: Stormwind Shoulderguards
Chest: Stormwind Chestguard
Tabard: Stormwind Tabard (new version)
Belt: Stormwind Belt
Legs: Stormwind Leggings
Boots: Stormwind Boots
Gloves: Stormwind Grips
Weapon: Shrediron’s Shredder (Level 3)

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

Add an enchanter’s illusion to your Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle (Update: More guns!)

Thanks to @IckabobWoW on Twitter for posting this little tip. If you (or a friend) has an Enchanter’s Study building with a follower assigned, you can apply enchanter’s illusions to weapons. The only enchant that it will allow you to apply to ranged weapons is Illusion: Blood Draining. This enchant is actually visible if your weapon is tranmogged to the Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle, as you can see above!

Update: More confirmed guns

Thanks to those who reported more working guns in the comments, Twitter, and reddit!

In addition to these specific guns, their lookalikes (viewable on wowhead) should also work.

Remember, this is only the Blood Draining illusion (but maybe someone awesome from Blizzard is reading this and will open up all illusions to these guns). There have been no bows or crossbows reported to work yet, but if I hear of any I will update the list.

Keep in mind that once this illusion is applied to a weapon it cannot be removed and will always be visible if the weapon is transmogged to one of the supported guns. If you want to see what it looks like, add the illusion to a throwaway weapon and try it out on there.

Update for Patch 6.1: I hate to say it, but Blizzard has decided to nerf this in patch 6.1. I mean, obviously it was a bug, but was it really hurting anything? If you had it previously applied it will stay on that weapon, but whenever you upgrade that weapon it will unfortunately be gone. 🙁

Hunter Transmog, Shaman Edition: Ten Storms

Here we have another shaman-like transmog submission for hunters, this time from Sagidu. Here’s what they had to say:

Set features awesome periodic lightning around shoulders as well as some kind of primal tidal energy filling in your eyes coming from helm. I decided to submit this particular set since I have not seen anybody else with it, and also to show male Draenei can look cool too.

Head: Headdress of the Tides
Shoulder: Mantle of the Sea Wolf
Chest: Harness of the Deep Currents
Belt: Stillwater Girdle
Legs: Oceansong Kilt
Boots: Wavefury Boots
Bracers: Primal Surge Bracers
Gloves: Fathomheart Gauntlets
Weapon: Melmorta’s Twilight Longbow (Alt: Talon Guard Bow)

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

Hunter Transmog, Shaman Edition: Fiery/Red

This transmog was submitted by Eilistraee  from Malygos-US. The whole shaman-lookalike isn’t really my thing, but I know some of your like your dresses! Here’s a cool looking red transmog obtained (mostly) in Heroic Firelands.

Helm: Crown of Flames
Shoulders: Craterflame Spaulders
Chest: Gatekeeper’s Embrace
Gloves: Clawshaper Gauntlets
Pants: Thoracic Flame Kilt
Boots: Treads of Implicit Obedience
Belt: Earthshatter Girdle (from BMAH — if anyone has an alternative suggestion, please comment)
Bow: Arathar, the Eye of Flame

I’ve put this set together in a Wowhead item comparison so you can quickly view it on other races in 3D (click the little triangle above the item icons).

Got a cool hunter transmog to show off?

Submit it, along with a complete item list and a link to a high-resolution screenshot or two, and I may feature it on the site! Especially could use some new transmogs feature Warlords of Draenor armor.

You can view previous transmog posts here.
